Kathleen Lynn : A Revolutionary Doctor

Another brilliant documentary I caught on TG4 the other night, the story of a suffragette, a dedicated Fenian, a revolutionary, a feminist, a Surgeon-General & Captain in James Connolly's Irish Citizen Army, Kathleen Lynn, who was also the chief doctor treating the wounded during the Easter Rising and because Dublin had the highest infant mortality rate in the world when she became a doctor in 1902, in addition to dedicating herself to helping Dublin's poor, especially struggling mothers, she became the founder of Ireland's first infant hospital, St. Ultan's in 1919.

Well worth a watch !

''I was only a working-class boy from a Nationalist ghetto, but it is repression that creates the revolutionary spirit of freedom. I shall not settle until I achieve liberation of my country, until Ireland becomes a sovereign, independent socialist republic. ''
